We want our students to take their place in the world as effective and responsible global citizens. Our international curriculum takes a variety of forms to broaden students’ cultural awareness, develop their linguistic proficiency and promote greater self-awareness and independence.

British Council’s International School Award (2021-2024)

St George's has been awarded by the British Council the prestigious International School Award for the fourth time running. The International School Award is a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding and innovative work in international education through links with partner schools overseas.

International Education is split into three sections within St George’s:

  • Digital exchanges are offered throughout Junior School, Lower School and Upper School. These enhance the learning within curriculum areas.
  • A unique Global Perspectives course in Upper 4.
  • International student exchange programmes for Upper 4, Sixth Form and staff.

International Education Curriculum

  • Digital exchange for P5 students with a partner school in Fort Worth, Texas
  • Pen pal programme with a partner school in Spain

  • Digital Exchange for Remove students through Health classes with partner schools in India.
  • Pen pal programme for Lower 4 students with partner schools in Toronto, Canada.

  • An opportunity for students in Upper 4 to apply for a reciprocal exchange to our partner schools in Toronto, Canada and Philadelphia and Fort Worth in America. The duration of the programme ranges from 2- 4 weeks.
  • Pen pal programmes through Languages for students in U4 – U5 with partner schools in China, France and Spain.
  • Opportunities for International trips such as a Classic trip to Italy, a Geography trip to Iceland, Sports tour to Holland to enhance curriculum and experience different cultures.
  • Previously the school has participated in two Erasmus projects with the most recent focusing on culture in European countries. The process is commencing to apply for a Turing Award.

Global Perspective course delivered in the Upper 4 Curriculum

  • Develops learners’ ability to consider significant global issues from different perspectives
  • Encourages learners to work collaboratively and individually and to apply their knowledge in different contexts
  • Develops transferable skills to complement learning in other curricular areas and prepare learners to be active global citizens in life beyond school
  • Encourage critical thinking.

  • An opportunity for students in U5 and L6 to apply for a reciprocal exchange to our partner schools in Australia, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa. The duration of the exchange is 4 – 6 weeks.
  • Pen pal programme with a partner school in Argentina.
  • Opportunity for expeditions with Global Action to Nepal and Costa Rica. This happens every 2 years.
