A Day of Romans: Primary 4’s Costume Fun and Learning

It was Roman Day in Primary 4 on Friday the 28th March 2025. We have been investigating life in Roman times in the spring term. Everyone in Primary 4 came to school dressed as a Roman character. There were gladiators, centurions, Roman gods and goddesses, Roman emperors, Roman soldiers, Roman children, Roman slaves and a Roman horse.
Throughout the day the learning was focused on different Roman workshops. In Music, we created some Roman songs and listened to Roman music. In Mathematics and Numeracy, we tackled Roman numerals. We thought carefully about Roman numerals that we see everyday in our houses and around Edinburgh.
In Outdoor Learning, we created the 'testudo' turtle shape that was part of a Roman siege. We also tried some marching and soldier formations out in the Junior School playground. Primary 4 had built some Roman shields and painted them in preparation for the battle scene on Roman Day.
It was an interesting historical day!
