Beauty and the Beast: Our School Musical

The Lower School and Upper School 'Beauty and the Beast' musical, hosted in November 2024, was truly a special event that brought many year groups and a large number of people closer together as they worked on the acting, singing, dancing, and technical aspects of the show.

The cast and crew consisted of over 40 students that ranged from Remove to Upper 6, as well as cast members from Merchiston Castle School. The performance was Broadway's famous 'Beauty and the Beast' and a fun experience for all involved to bond over. Rehearsals were usually on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, and later on included a couple of all-day and Sunday rehearsals.

Our first performance was our community performance on 12 November, for visiting local schools, who also had the opportunity to chat to their favourite characters and ask questions of the tech and costume team.

Our evening performances were on 14 and 15 November, where our audience gave us a standing ovation on both nights – on the Friday performance we even got a standing ovation for 'Be Our Guest'!

This musical was a fun experience, and the teachers were all incredibly supportive of the acting and always willing to help when it was needed.

I thoroughly enjoyed taking part and would recommend anyone who wants to experience the magic of theatre to audition for the next show!
