Celebrating Our Heritage on School Archives Day

12 March 2025 marks the inaugural School Archives Day, a perfect opportunity to highlight St George's exceptional archive collection. Our archives aren't just a record of our school's past; they represent a nationally significant resource documenting the evolution of girls' education in Scotland from 1867 to the present day.
Our physical archive collection will be moving to a new home within the main school building this year. This relocation brings exciting developments including:
- Expanded space for our growing collection
- Improved accessibility for students, staff, and researchers
- Enhanced preservation capabilities for delicate historical materials
- Greater opportunities for educational engagement
Our archives capture the spirit of St George's throughout generations, preserving the voices, achievements, and daily experiences of the students and staff who came before us. From handwritten letters and meeting minutes to photographs, uniforms, and school publications, each item tells part of our collective story.
As our Archivist often reminds us, "The archive reflects the school, but it cannot stand still. It needs to show what the school was like at every stage of its history." Today's events, achievements, and experiences will become tomorrow's archives, as St George's continues to make history.
