Cressida Cowell: Author visit at Merchiston School

On Wednesday 20th September, Primary 4, 5 and 6 went on a school trip to Merchiston School to listen to a talk by the author, Cressida Cowell.

Cressida Cowell talked about her new book 'Which Way Round the Galaxy!' She spoke in detail about the main characters, Izzabird and K2 O’Hero and Theo and Mable Smith. She also showed us the trailers of 'The Wizards of Once', which is one of her bestselling books.

Cressida Cowell also has a lot of other very successful books like the 'How to Train your Dragon' series, which have been made into movies. 

Cressida Cowell inspired us all with her stories of growing up. She spent her summers on an uninhabited island off the west coast of Scotland, so small that when you were at the top you could see the ocean all around you. This island is what inspired Cressida to write the stories 'How to Train Your Dragon'. Cressida also spoke about how she found spelling challenging at school but did not allow it to stop her working hard or stop her writing. 

One of the highlights from the trip was being able to buy a book and get it signed. She was so kind and spent a lot of time talking to all the children. We can’t wait now to draw our own maps and create our own stories.
