'Dragon's Roar' Championing Children's Rights
At St George's Junior School, we are proud to be on an exciting journey towards achieving Silver Rights Respecting Accreditation from UNICEF. This prestigious recognition celebrates our commitment to embedding children's rights into our school ethos and practices. It's a process that involves not only educating the children about their rights but also empowering them to advocate for and uphold these rights in their daily lives.
Leading this important initiative is our dedicated House Captain team, who have been instrumental in driving this project forward. Their passion for children's rights and determination to ensure that every pupil understands and respects these rights has made a significant impact on our school community. With their guidance, we have made strides towards integrating these values into every corner of our Junior School.
One of the most exciting developments in our journey has been the creation of an online blog called Dragon's Roar. This new platform will serve as a space where pupils can share their ideas and reflections. Dragon's Roar will feature a variety of engaging content, including a "Right of the Week" spotlight, which highlights a specific right and explores what it means for our pupils. This initiative allows children to actively engage with the rights they hold, helping them to understand how these rights are relevant in their daily lives.
The blog also gives pupils a chance to contribute their thoughts. By creating this platform, we aim to foster a deeper sense of responsibility and awareness among our pupils, empowering them to speak up and be leaders in the promotion of rights in both our school and the wider community.
In addition to Dragon's Roar, we have also worked hard to make the concept of children's rights more visible throughout the school. New signs and posters highlighting specific rights have been installed in classrooms, corridors, and communal spaces. These visual reminders ensure that pupils are continuously aware of their rights and are encouraged to reflect on how they can actively respect and uphold them in their interactions with others.
Achieving Silver Rights Respecting Accreditation is not an overnight task, and we are proud of the progress we've made so far. The work being done by our House Captain Team and the contributions from pupils, staff, and families are bringing us closer to this goal. However, this is just the beginning of our journey.
We look forward to the exciting developments ahead and are grateful for the support of our school community as we continue on this journey towards Silver Rights Respecting Accreditation. Together, we can ensure that the rights of every child are not only acknowledged but celebrated.
