Elle McNicoll New Patron of Reading

We are thrilled to celebrate Elle McNicoll as our newest Patron of Reading for 2023-2025.

Elle is the bestselling author of A Kind of Spark, Show Us Who You Are, Like a Charm and Like a Curse. Her award-winning debut A Kind of Spark has been adapted for CBBC, now available on iPlayer, and we’re looking forward to the publication of its prequel Keedie and her first young adult novel Some Like It Cold. Elle is also an advocate for better representation of neurodiversity in publishing.

As Patron of Reading, Elle will be our school’s dedicated author, enhancing our culture of reading through initiatives and events throughout the year and across the school.

We’re looking forward to so much this coming year alone, including being young judges for the Adrien Prize, author visits and career talks, and the inside scoop on adapting a novel for the screen!

Elle is our second Patron of Reading, taking over from Anna James, author of the bestselling Pages & Co series, who finished her reign as Patron at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. During that time, Anna and Elle had a chance to sit down together last February at a full-house event open to all students, families and guardians.

Elle is no stranger to Edinburgh (her hometown!) nor to St George’s, so we’re delighted to welcome her back to be a part of our reading community.
