Global Connections: St George's Strengthens Ties with Chilean School
As St George's welcomed our two exchange students from Ascham School in Sydney, Australia over the weekend, it is now sadly time to say haste ye back to Sofia, our Chilean exchange student who has been with us since the start of term.
Sofia was inspired to apply for the exchange to Scotland as she was born in Orkney. CJ, her exchange partner, and her family made sure to include this trip in the activities they planned for Sofia's trip. When sharing her experience in the Upper School assembly, Sofia mentioned that her favourite memories from her time at St George's have been seeing Highland cows whilst visiting the Northeast island and playing hockey every day! Sofia has been training with the senior hockey teams every week and representing the 2nd Xi in matches at the weekend. She was even called up to play with the 1st Xi for her last match!
It has been wonderful to re-establish a connection with the Southern Oxford School in Villarrica, Chile. The programme came into fruition after the principal of the school sent her daughter to board at St George's School when she was in Lower 5. Rocio, stayed for in Houldsworth House and completed her school journey with St George's before heading off to study Art at university. Since returning home after university Rocio, who is now the Head of Creative Arts at Southern Oxford School returned to St George's to establish an exchange programme as she loved her time at the school. Fast forward a few years and she is now the coordinator for their exchange programme with St George's being one of the most popular choices.
Our partnership is certainly in great hands with a St G's old girl, and we are looking forward to many more exchanges.
