Outstanding University Destinations for St George's Class of 2024 | 99% First-Choice Success
At St George's, it has become customary to see an extremely high percentage of our Upper Sixth students securing their first-choice university destinations, and 2024 is no exception. Following last year’s impressive figure of 99%, we are delighted to announce that we have once again matched this achievement, with 99% of students securing their first-choice university this year. As ever, we aim to reach 100% next year!
The breadth of courses and destinations chosen by this year’s leavers reflects the depth of academic achievement across a wide range of subjects. From Motorsport Engineering at Oxford Brookes to Politics and International Relations at University College London, and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, our students continue to pursue diverse and ambitious pathways.
St George’s commitment to breaking down gender stereotypes is also clearly reflected in this year’s results. Nationally, male applicants outnumber females in UK Computer Science courses by a ratio of 4.1 to 1, yet St George’s has seen a growing number of female students applying for and securing places on Computing courses at universities such as York, Glasgow, and Southampton. This trend underscores our continued focus on empowering young women to thrive in fields traditionally dominated by men, and we are proud to see this momentum building in our Lower Sixth cohort as well.
In the context of 2024 being the ‘Year of Elections’ globally, it is no surprise that a strong interest in Politics and International Relations has emerged among our students. This year, a significant number of leavers are embarking on courses in these disciplines, including Interdisciplinary Futures at the University of Edinburgh and PPE at Durham University. This interest is undoubtedly fueled by the exceptional opportunities provided by our History and Modern Studies departments, alongside our highly popular Model United Nations Society, which encourages students to engage deeply with global affairs and refine their persuasive public speaking skills.
