Primary 6 Spring Term Highlights: Sports, Culture and Careers

Sports News: Hockey Tournaments Test Team Spirit

Our Primary 6 Hockey Team has been busy with two tournaments this month. At Dollar Academy (18th March), players demonstrated unwavering team spirit despite challenging competition. While final standings weren't what we hoped for, the experience gained will serve as building blocks for future success.
Earlier, at Mary Erskine's ESMS tournament (1st March), our team competed against nine others in a round-robin format. After a strong start with a victory against Glasgow Academy—thanks to Imogen Pulling's winning goal—the team finished 4th in their group. Throughout both events, our athletes displayed exemplary sportsmanship and camaraderie, truly reflecting our school values.
Cultural Connections: Indian Food Tasting
P6 students participated in an Indian food tasting event connected to their class book, "Tamarind and the Star of Ishta." Students sampled 12 different foods mentioned in the story, evaluating appearance, texture, smell, and taste.
"It was such fun because we got to eat with our friends and try things that we had never had before," reported Amaya and Lucy from P6. "Most people liked the poppadums and mango chutney the best." The lime pickle and lassi divided opinions—just like in the book—creating authentic cultural connections through food.
Career Exploration with Mrs Hall
P6 students gained valuable insights during a careers session with Mrs Hall. Students explored various professions including architecture, sports, film editing and copywriting, along with the specific skills each requires.
"We now realise how important transferable skills are and that we should try and work on them," shared Saanvi and Lorelei. "At first, we thought P6 was quite young to start thinking about careers, but it might actually help us now because we have to start thinking about what we might want to study for our exams later."
The session helped students identify skills they already possess and those they could develop, making early connections between education and future opportunities.
