Sports Highlights: Fencing, Badminton and Judo

Fencing

Congratulations to our two fencers that participated in the Scottish Fencing Youth Championship.

Thea won the gold medal in the U15 Woman's Sabre Category and Alexia won the silver medal in the U15 Girls Fiol and Bronze in the U17 Girls Category.

Well done girls! All the best with the rest of your season.

Badminton

Deepti and Vibha represented St George's at the SSBU Secondary Schools National Championships that were held on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 March.

For this event, prizes were presented by MSP Carol Mochan who had come in as a spectator. For all other events, prizes were presented by Margaret Gaw as a tribute to the work of Robert who had been involved in running the event for many years.

Top seed Deepti worked hard in the intermediate single final.

On to the senior event where again the top 2 seeds reached the final with Vibha taking the title.

With Deepti taking the intermediate girls singles and Vibha taking the senior it was no great surprise that the two of them went on to take the senior doubles title.

Judo

Oona recently passed her second Judo grading (white belt with yellow band), which was judged by Sarah Adlington, Scotland's only two-time commonwealth gold medallist!

Oona is feeling really inspired and looking forward to doing more serious sports in school.
