St George's Curling Team Makes Strong Showing at Avantis Cup
The St George's School curling club team competed this past Saturday in their first ever Avantis Cup. This is a curling competition for Edinburgh schools hosted by ESMS at Curl Edinburgh. The St George's team consisted of Uisce, Alice, Autumn and Dany, led by skip Isla who unfortunately could not attend due to her participation in the U14 National Slam in Aberdeen with Team Seftor.
Despite limited training and a last-minute line-up change, the St George's team represented the school admirably. According to reports, they played well, winning one end and narrowly missing another in their first two matches against Stewart Melville and George Watson. Their final match against George Heriot's ended in a draw, forcing a shootout that St George's narrowly lost in a close contest.
The event marked the return of St George's as a presence in school curling, with the renewed club and girls team helping to put the school back on the curling map after being without a team for several years. Congratulations to the team and their families for their dedication and support. We at St George's hope this is just the start of more memorable moments for our burgeoning curling program!
