St George's Young Singer and Musician Competitions Showcase Exceptional Performances

The Young Singer Competition was a lovely atmosphere and all singers performed extremely well. Our new 'Young Singer of St George's is Eva (U5) with a stellar performance Gluck's aria 'O mio dolce ardor', second went to Amy (U6) and her lovely and light-hearted rendition of 'The Trolley Song' and third to Beth (L5) for a gut-wrenching performance of 'Pretty Funny' from the musical Dogfight. There were two highly commended performances as well and those commendations went to Ariana (L6) and Darcey (L6). A huge thanks to our wonderful singing teachers for preparing these students so well - the calibre of the performances was high and Colleen Nicoll, our esteemed adjudicator, commented on the song choices being absolutely spot on for each student.

The Young Musician Competition was an excellent event, which included a staggering 17 performances! The students performed impeccably and were very well prepared thanks to the support of their wonderful teachers! Piano performances prevailed this time (a clean sweep) with Christine (U6) reclaiming her title as the Young Musician of St George's for her moving performance of Lecuona's 'Ante el Escorial', Charlotte (L6) earned second place with her characteristically sound performance of 'Tarantella' by Prokofiev and Eva (U5) came in third place with a fabulous performance of 'Andaluza' by Grandos. All performances were commended with five highly commended, among them - Clara (U5) on cello, Amy (U6) on harp, Joanna (U5) playing flute, Connie (U6) with electric guitar and Amenah (L6) on piano. David Elliott, our adjudicator, did a fantastic job adjudicating for the event and kept the performers and audience laughing and in high spirits.
