Stepping Stones North Edinburgh Wins Hearts and YPI Grant
On Friday, November 24th, the Lower 5 YPI (Youth and Philanthropy Initiative) finalists presented to an audience of Upper 4's, Lower 5's and guests from various charities, competing to win a £3,000 grant from The Wood Foundation.
The presentations were filled with passion and creativity. One group created an engaging Kahoot quiz for the audience, while another performed an inspirational original music piece arranged and performed by a group member.
Ultimately, the winning charity was Stepping Stones North Edinburgh, selected by the judging panel. Stepping Stones provides vital support services for young parent families and pregnant women in the North Edinburgh area. Congratulations to the winning team: Frankie, Ruby, Bella, Joanna and Rosa!
Many groups who presented have existing plans to continue supporting their chosen charities, even if they did not receive the grant money. The causes spoke closely to the students' hearts.
In a letter from The Wood Foundation, Executive Chairman Sir Ian Wood highlighted the importance of youth engagement in philanthropy: "Working with youngsters and helping them understand the important work you do is a vital way of getting them involved in their communities and doing more throughout their lives."
Since its launch in 2008, YPI Scotland has empowered over 310,000 students to steward over £6.8 million in charitable community grants. This youth-led philanthropy initiative is transforming generations and forging strong bonds between schools and charities.
