Tinsel, Sprouts, and Storytelling: Sibéal Pounder's Festive Visit

On a wintry late November morning author Sibéal Pounder paid a special visit to St George’s. Primary 4, 5, 6, and Remove came together in the Lower School Hall to hear from the bestselling visiting author.

Sibéal Pounder is well loved for her series Witch Wars and Bad Mermaids, but this morning she was here to talk all things Christmas. Sibéal brought festive cheer as she shared the inspiration behind her book Tinsel and her newest novel, Sprouts.

Then it was our turn to think up creative Christmas ideas. Girls came up with story ideas like ‘what if Santa was lazy’ or ‘if Mrs Claus stopped helping’. We also reimagined festive objects: a bauble with arms and legs, a runaway Christmas tree, and even talking tinsel!

Next came a lively competition inspired by Sprouts, where Christmas enthusiasts—the Krampuses, who want Christmas all year long—faced off against the witches, who firmly believe it should remain a one-day celebration. It was a spirited contest, but in the end, the witches claimed victory.

The morning wrapped up with book signings and a chance to enjoy some reading.
