On Friday, 10th January, the Lower 5 year group hosted this year’s final of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI). Six teams participated in the final, presenting to an audience comprising all of Lower 5, all of Upper 4 (who will be undertaking YPI next session), a panel of four judges, representatives from shortlisted charities, and Laura Gordon, the YPI Programme Officer. The teams competed to win a £3,000 cheque for their chosen local charity.

This year’s bids were made on behalf of: The Eric Liddell Community Centre and the Murrayfield Club (both supporting people with dementia and their carers), Thornton Rose Riding for the Disabled, Good 2 Give (supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of young cancer patients), The Circle (helping families facing multiple disadvantages), and The Breakfast Bothy (offering free breakfasts at the Meadows for people experiencing homelessness and food poverty). All groups powerfully conveyed the valuable work of their chosen charities, with many reflecting on the practical and emotional benefits they had gained from participating in the programme.

The winning team represented The Breakfast Bothy, with Paige, Pippa, Sophia, Rachel, and Sophie securing a £3,000 cheque to support its vital work.
