Boarder from Luxembourg

As a boarder at St George's in Edinburgh my experience has been nothing short of transformative. I came to Scotland initially for an exchange year to improve my English writing. However, the welcoming environment, excellent education system, and strong sense of community convinced me to stay longer.

"I love that we can specialise in subjects here. It’s allowed me to focus on what I truly enjoy—science."

The Scottish education system stands out for its flexibility. Unlike in Luxembourg, where students follow a rigid curriculum, here I can dive deep into the subjects I am passionate about. This freedom has been vital in my journey toward pursuing medicine at university. Weekly mock interviews and dedicated early applicant meetings have also supported me in achieving my academic goals.

"Living with people 24/7 has taught me independence and the value of strong relationships."

Boarding life was a new experience for me. Learning to handle responsibilities like doing laundry, managing my schedule, and living away from family has made me more independent. The close-knit boarding house feels like a true home—separate from school yet deeply connected through shared experiences.

"The staff are friendly and approachable and the boarding atmosphere is very supportive."

From the moment I arrived, I felt at ease. My buddies introduced me to everyone, and the small, welcoming community made settling in effortless. The staff respect our independence but are always available if we need guidance.

"Edinburgh is such a vibrant city with so much to offer."

Weekends in Edinburgh are a highlight. Whether it's enjoying the festive Christmas markets, watching a play like Wicked, or exploring the city's rich culture, there’s always something exciting to do. I also appreciate how safe and welcoming the city feels.

"Boarding here means being part of a diverse, friendly community."

One of the most rewarding aspects has been learning about different cultures. My friends come from all over the world, and we often share stories about our backgrounds creating a unique, inclusive environment.

For anyone considering boarding in Edinburgh, I would say: "Come for a taster day, experience the community, and see if it feels like home. For me, it absolutely did."
