About our Upper School
St George’s Upper School: Seizing opportunities
Our empowering approach to an all-girls’ education really comes into its own in our upper school.
This is due to the ethos and nature of our Upper School, which ensures St George’s is a place of possibilities: where everyone is clearly heard and appreciated; where girls feel empowered to be themselves; and where they can seize a myriad of opportunities with both hands.
As
the girls move towards and through public examination courses, they
build on their skills for independent study, problem-solving, and
understanding the wider world. Thanks to excellent relationships with
staff and between different year groups, there’s always someone on hand
to guide and support, especially when making important decisions or
overcoming setbacks.
A genuinely balanced approach means high academic aspiration is set in the context of a supportive community and a rich co-curricular programme.
All of this is achieved with a broader awareness of the global tech-driven world that awaits your daughter after school.
By the time pupils are ready to move into Sixth Form, they’ll have enjoyed success and subsequently gained inner confidence – by demonstrating the sense of adventure and courage, typical of a St George’s girl.
Supportive learning & care in Upper School
To further cement ourselves as one of the best secondary schools in Edinburgh, St George’s ensures that every pupil is sufficiently supported in their learning journey.
One way in which we do this is to assign every girl a tutor in a small tutor group. We are fortunate to have highly experienced and dedicated tutors who support and champion their tutees. Tutor groups meet daily at registration and for weekly Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) sessions.
